Respiratory physiotherapy in London

Chest physiotherapy and breathing retraining for long-term respiratory conditions, and recovery after chest infections and surgery.

  • In clinic or in your home
  • Airway clearance techniques
  • Breathing pattern retraining
  • No GP referral needed

What respiratory physiotherapy does

Respiratory physiotherapy helps when breathing has become hard work: long-term chest conditions that produce secretions, recovery after pneumonia or chest surgery, and breathing patterns that have drifted into dysfunction after illness or stress.

Treatment is practical: airway clearance techniques you can do yourself, breathing retraining, and paced exercise that rebuilds capacity without flattening you. For many chest patients, home is the most sensible place to be treated, and we do that across London.

“I have seen several different therapists at Sammy Margo’s over many years. Every one has been excellent. When I was recovering from a hip replacement the physio I received helped me recover really quickly. Highly recommended.”

“I had a full hip replacement following a cycle accident, and have daily physio visits on weekdays for three weeks. I am already able to walk short distances without a stick or crutch, and this is entirely due to the work they have done with me.”

Frequently asked questions

Is this instead of my inhalers or medication?
No. Respiratory physiotherapy works alongside your medical treatment, never instead of it. Keep taking what you have been prescribed.
Can you treat me at home?
Yes, and for many chest patients home is the most practical setting. We cover the whole of London.
What is breathing pattern retraining?
Relearning a calm, efficient breathing pattern after illness, stress or long-term over-breathing has pushed it into a costly one. It is practical and very teachable.
Will exercise make my chest worse?
Pitched correctly, no; paced exercise is one of the best treatments for most chest conditions. The skill is in the pacing, which is what we are for.
Do you work with my NHS team?
With your consent, yes. We are used to slotting in alongside NHS respiratory teams and consultants.
