Massage with a clinical eye

Sports and deep tissue massage works into muscle tension that stretching does not reach: training tightness, desk-bound necks and shoulders, and the knots that build up when a muscle has been working overtime to protect something else.

Because massage here sits inside a physiotherapy practice, the person treating you thinks clinically. If your tight calf is actually compensating for a stiff ankle, you will hear about it, and we can do something about it.

What to expect

How a session works

Straightforward on purpose: tell us where it is tight, and we work on it.

01A short chat firstWhat is tight, what you train, and anything we should avoid. If something needs a proper assessment, we say so.
02The massageFocused, firm work on the areas that need it. Depth is adjusted to you; sore afterwards is common, bruised is not the aim.
03Keep it that waySimple advice on load, stretching and the habits that made things tight in the first place.
Commonly booked for

What people come in with

Massage is not just for athletes. Desks cause at least as much of this as barbells do.

Tight backs & shouldersThe stiffness that builds from desks, driving and stress.
Post-training sorenessRecovery between heavy training blocks or race builds.
Neck & desk tensionThe base-of-skull and shoulder-blade tension of screen work.
Hamstring & calf tightnessCommon in runners, and worth checking for a cause.
ITB tightnessOuter-thigh tightness that nags through runs and rides.
Pre-event preparationLoosening off before a race or competition.
Who you will see

Delivered within a chartered physiotherapy practice

Your massage is delivered within a practice of chartered, HCPC-registered physiotherapists. That matters when something does not feel like simple tightness: assessment and treatment are one referral-free conversation away, in the same building.

“I have seen several different therapists at Sammy Margo’s over many years. Every one has been excellent. When I was recovering from a hip replacement the physio I received helped me recover really quickly. Highly recommended.”

“I had a full hip replacement following a cycle accident, and have daily physio visits on weekdays for three weeks. I am already able to walk short distances without a stick or crutch, and this is entirely due to the work they have done with me.”

Frequently asked questions

How hard is deep tissue massage?
Firm enough to work, never a test of endurance. Your therapist adjusts depth with you as they go, and feeling worked afterwards is normal.
Massage or physiotherapy, which do I need?
If it is tightness and recovery, massage. If there is pain, weakness, or a problem that keeps returning, start with a physiotherapy assessment and we will build massage in if it helps.
How often should I come?
For training maintenance, many people settle into every three to six weeks. There is no package to buy; come when it is useful.
Can I book massage without being injured?
Absolutely. Plenty of regulars book it purely as maintenance.
Is massage covered by insurance?
Usually only when it is part of a physiotherapy treatment plan. Standalone massage is generally self-pay; check your policy.
