Vestibular physiotherapy in London

Assessment and treatment for vertigo, dizziness and balance problems, including the Epley manoeuvre for BPPV.

  • Epley manoeuvre for BPPV
  • Balance retraining programmes
  • No GP referral needed
  • Specialist assessment £160 in clinic

Dizziness is treatable more often than people think

Vertigo and dizziness are among the most disorientating symptoms there are, and among the most undertreated. The most common cause, BPPV, is a mechanical problem of the inner ear that can often improve dramatically with a single repositioning manoeuvre.

Other causes need retraining rather than repositioning: graded exercises that teach the balance system to recalibrate after an inner-ear infection or with age. Assessment tells us which kind yours is, and that is the appointment that changes things.

What to expect

How vestibular assessment works

The pattern of your dizziness tells us the cause. The assessment is designed to bring that pattern out.

01Your story, carefullyWhen it spins, how long it lasts, what sets it off. The history does most of the diagnostic work.
02Positional testingGuided head and body positions that let us see the tell-tale signs of BPPV and other vestibular problems.
03Treatment on the spotIf it is BPPV, repositioning usually starts the same visit. If it is not, you leave with a retraining programme and a clear explanation.
Who you will see

Physiotherapists trained in vestibular rehabilitation

Vestibular assessment and treatment is delivered by physiotherapists with specific vestibular rehabilitation training, chartered and HCPC-registered. For patients too unsteady to travel, assessment at home is often the safer starting point.

“I had a full hip replacement following a cycle accident, and have daily physio visits on weekdays for three weeks. I am already able to walk short distances without a stick or crutch, and this is entirely due to the work they have done with me.”

Frequently asked questions

What is the Epley manoeuvre?
A guided sequence of head positions that moves loose crystals in the inner ear back where they belong. For BPPV it is the first-line treatment and often works quickly.
Will the assessment make me dizzy?
Possibly, briefly; provoking the dizziness in a controlled way is how we identify it. You will never be pushed further than you can manage, and it settles.
Should I see a doctor first?
Not necessarily, and we screen carefully for the signs that need medical review; if we find any, we will tell you straight away and point you to the right place.
How many sessions does BPPV take?
Often very few; some patients improve substantially after the first repositioning. Other vestibular problems need a retraining programme over weeks.
Can you come to me?
Yes. If dizziness makes travelling unsafe, we assess and treat at home across London.
