  • Specialist women’s health physiotherapist
  • Private treatment rooms
  • No GP referral needed

Physiotherapy for problems nobody talks about

Bladder leaks when you laugh or run. Pelvic pain in pregnancy. A tummy that has not come back together after birth. These are some of the most common problems we treat, and some of the least talked about, which is exactly why so many women put up with them for years.

Most respond well to specialist physiotherapy. Assessment is unhurried, private and always at your pace: nothing happens without your consent, and everything is explained before it is suggested.

What to expect

What a first appointment looks like

Knowing what to expect makes it easier to book. Nothing is examined without discussion and consent.

01A proper conversationYour history and your symptoms, in plain language, in a private room. This alone is often half the assessment.
02Assessment, at your pacePosture, tummy and, only where appropriate and consented, an internal pelvic floor assessment. It is always your choice.
03A plan you can live withSpecific pelvic floor work and realistic lifestyle changes, reviewed as you progress.
Who you will see

A specialist, not a generalist

Women’s health physiotherapy is a specialist field, and you will be seen by a physiotherapist trained in it. Chartered and HCPC-registered, with assessment always in a private room and a chaperone welcome at any appointment.

“I have seen several different therapists at Sammy Margo’s over many years. Every one has been excellent. When I was recovering from a hip replacement the physio I received helped me recover really quickly. Highly recommended.”

“I had a full hip replacement following a cycle accident, and have daily physio visits on weekdays for three weeks. I am already able to walk short distances without a stick or crutch, and this is entirely due to the work they have done with me.”

Frequently asked questions

Is an internal examination always needed?
No. It is often the most informative assessment for pelvic floor problems, but it only ever happens with your informed consent, and there is always a plan B if you would rather not.
Can I come while pregnant?
Yes, at any stage. Pelvic girdle pain and back pain in pregnancy respond well to treatment, and we adapt everything to trimester and comfort.
How soon after birth can I be assessed?
From around six weeks for a full check, sooner if something is worrying you. If you are unsure, call and we will advise.
Is leaking just normal after children?
It is common, but it is not something you simply have to live with. Pelvic floor physiotherapy is the first-line treatment and most women improve with it.
Can I bring my baby?
Of course. Plenty of postnatal appointments happen with a pram in the room.
