🎗️ Walking Beside Patients: A Physiotherapist's Reflection on World Cancer Day 🎗️

Zoe Katz

Yesterday, on February 4th—World Cancer Day—I found myself reflecting on the incredible journeys of the patients I've supported through cancer treatment.

As a physiotherapist who's worked closely with cancer patients, I've learned that healing isn't just about medical treatments—it's about supporting the whole person. Cancer can feel overwhelming, but I've seen incredible resilience in my patients who find ways to stay strong and hopeful.

Every cancer journey is unique, and that's where physiotherapy comes in. We're not just treating symptoms; we're helping people rediscover their strength and maintain their sense of self during an incredibly challenging time.

Some days, strength means being able to make your own breakfast or play with your grandkids. We create exercise plans that meet you exactly where you are—whether that's gentle stretches in bed or gradually building muscle during treatment.

Fatigue can be brutal during cancer treatment. But surprisingly, carefully designed movement can actually help combat that exhaustion. It's not about pushing hard, but finding those moments of energy and working with them.

Pain management is crucial. Through targeted manual therapy and personalized exercises, we help patients find relief and regain a sense of control over their bodies. Each small victory matters.

I've watched patients go from feeling defeated to feeling empowered. It's not about fighting cancer, but about moving forward with dignity, one step at a time.

Cancer isn't a journey anyone should navigate alone. Together, we find ways to keep moving, keep hoping, and keep living. 💛
