Recovery after stroke continues far longer than most people are told. Specialist neuro physiotherapy in your own home keeps it moving, from a full-time clinical team, never an agency booking.

  • Full-time in-house team, not an agency

Understanding it

Understanding stroke recovery

Symptoms
  • Weakness down one side of the body
  • Difficulty walking, balancing or using stairs
  • A hand and arm that do less than they used to
  • Stiffness and changed muscle tone
  • Fatigue that limits everything else
  • Loss of confidence in moving, indoors and out
How recovery works
  • The brain rewires around the injury: this is neuroplasticity, and it is driven by practice
  • Recovery is fastest early, but meaningful gains continue for years with the right input
  • Intensity matters: more quality repetitions produce more change
  • NHS rehabilitation often ends before recovery does; private input can continue the work
When to seek help
  • As soon as you are home and want rehabilitation to continue
  • If NHS therapy has ended but you have goals left
  • If walking, balance or arm use has plateaued
  • If confidence, rather than ability, has become the barrier
How we treat it

Our approach to stroke rehabilitation

Goal-driven, repetition-rich rehabilitation, with the same neuro physiotherapist every visit.

Rehabilitation starts with your goals: the stairs at home, walking to the shop, using the affected hand at dinner. Your programme is built backwards from them, with the repetitions and progression that neuroplasticity demands.

Most of our stroke patients are seen at home, where the stairs, chairs and doorways are the real thing. With your consent we coordinate with your GP, consultant and family, and we measure progress so you can see it too.

Why choose SMARTPHYSIO

A full-time clinical team, not an agency

Many home physiotherapy services are agencies. You enquire, and the visit is passed to whichever freelance physiotherapist on their list is free that day. SMARTPHYSIO does not work like that. Every physiotherapist who comes to your home is a full-time member of our own clinical team, trained and supervised by us.

Our own full-time teamThe physiotherapist at your door works for SMARTPHYSIO full time, alongside colleagues they know well. We never pass your enquiry to a freelancer on a list.
Trained in-houseEvery physiotherapist completes our own in-house training before visiting patients at home, so the standard of care is ours and never pot luck.
Supervised, never working aloneOur physiotherapists work under clinical supervision and discuss cases as a team, so there is always experienced support behind your care.
Four questions worth asking any home physiotherapy service
  • Does the physiotherapist work for you full time, or are they booked from a list?
  • Who trained them, and who supervises their work?
  • Will it be the same physiotherapist at every visit?
  • If they are away, who covers, and will they know my case?

With SMARTPHYSIO the answers are simple: our own full-time team, trained and supervised in-house, the same physiotherapist, or small team of clinicians, at every visit, and cover from a colleague in the same team.

“I had a full hip replacement following a cycle accident, and have daily physio visits on weekdays for three weeks. I am already able to walk short distances without a stick or crutch, and this is entirely due to the work they have done with me.”

Frequently asked questions

Is it too late to improve, years after my stroke?
No. The steepest recovery happens early, but research shows meaningful improvement is possible years after stroke with targeted, intensive practice. We will be honest about what is realistic for you.
How is private neuro physio different from what the NHS provided?
It continues where NHS blocks end, with session frequency built around your goals rather than service limits, and the same specialist clinician throughout.
Do you treat stroke patients at home?
Yes, that is where most of our stroke rehabilitation happens. Practising on your own stairs and in your own kitchen is more useful than any clinic simulation.
Can family be involved in sessions?
We encourage it. Carers who know the exercises and handling make daily practice safer and more frequent, which is what drives recovery.
Will you liaise with my consultant or GP?
With your consent, yes. Good stroke care is a team effort, and we keep your medical team informed of progress and any concerns.
